I’m a graduate of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, a four year long training in energy healing and spiritual transformation (if that name is familiar but you can’t quite place it, think “Hands of Light”). That was quite the party- 5 x week-long residential trainings each year, receiving fortnightly psychotherapy/supervision sessions in between. More recently I’m a graduate of Patricia White Buffalo‘s 3 year training in shamanic practice, shamanic healing (particularly soul retrieval), earth centred spirituality and early childhood developmental healing.
I love finding and using and reading about unusual vibrational essences from all over the world, such as essences made from spider webs, butterflies, shells, or stars.
In my muggle life I love music, graphic design, psychology and cupcakes. Green and conscious living is important to me. I’m a massive geek, and can’t remember a time when I wasn’t a trekkie. Jean-Luc Picard has taught me more about ethical living than most real philosophers! (I’m not sure whether that’s a good reflection on Gene Rodenberry and Patric Stewart, or just a poor reflection on my generation). I’m also very into Harry Potter! I’m quite in touch with my dark side, which made me quite torn about whether to root for Harry or the Dark Lord. For other Potter fans, watch this; my gift to you.
I’m a devotee of body psychotherapies like Core Energetics, because I have the suspicion that any spiritual path that doesn’t involve the body is doomed to stay in the realm of ideas, as concepts. Movements in the soul need to express themselves as movements in the body. I’m always learning- through workshops, and through experience. I’m currently focusing on advanced trainings in relational cord healing and healing presence with Jan Janssen, working with the astral world with Dean Ramsden and ancestral healing with Shavasti.
As well as what I’ve received from my beloved teachers, I am blessed with a rich Jewish heritage – on my father’s side I am Cohenim (high priest), and on my mother’s side a descendent of the founder of modern Kaballah (mysticism), from whom I have taken my name. I’m also a blend of the Russian and Spanish-Morrocan, on top of being resolutely English. My ancestry and sense of ‘belonging’ is complicated!
In my spare time I help organise healing and transformational trainings and lectures.
What brought me to where I am now
As a boy I was often ill, and easily injured. I spent much of my childhood in my own imagination or in books. I avoided sports. I was an only child, and I didn’t feel I belonged.
As I matured, I went through different religious beliefs. I was raised Jewish, but investigated and ‘dabbled’ with Messianic Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Paganism. I went from agnosticism to being a ‘young earth creationist’ to atheist to religious… and so on. I didn’t find much to satisfy me in conventional religion.
When I was 12, I started becoming interested in ‘auras’. I was taught how to sense them. I quickly discovered that by doing what I now know is called ‘hand scanning’, I could feel where my friends had previously had injuries or broken their bones. I began meditating with crystals on my chakras. I was hungering for awakening, although I didn’t know it at the time.
And so my awakening started. Opening to spirituality and the world of energy gave me the feeling that I had come home. I became aware that, until that time, I hadn’t really been living. I had been a husk, adrift, not connected to either the earth or the heavens. But now I was half awake- the ‘spiritual’ half of me had opened. I knew that the main task ahead of me was in waking up and en-livening the other half of me: the physical half, the half which is my body and my connection to earth.
On a personal level, this remains my task. My professional task is to help other people do that too: to help them experience more pleasure, joy, wisdom, serenity, compassion, love, abundance, flow, safety etc, in their bodies as alive and magnificent physical/spiritual beings.
Very little gives me more joy than helping someone find their rooting.
